It can be SO overwhelming going wedding dress shopping. It’s usually quite high on the agenda after, well getting engaged usually. (and sometimes even before getting engaged) The venue is the first big thing to tick off your wedding to-do list as it’s a pretty important step. That sets the whole vibe and mood of the wedding, so next comes the dress!
It’s one of the most important dresses you will ever wear, so it has to be special. Now, every bride is different and there is no right or wrong when it comes to timelines, budgets, themes or even colours of dresses.
Research is always a great first step. Looking at inspiration and designers etc but truly, until you start trying on dresses, you don’t know what would suit you! It’s all about process of elimination.
Once you start trying dresses on, you might think ‘oh this dress is too busy’ or ‘this dress has too big of a skirt for me’. Making those little decisions suddenly rule out handfuls of dresses and you narrow it down without even realising.
It is always good to come to an appointment a little open minded and be ready to find something unexpected. We know the dresses inside and out, literally, so quite often will pick a wildcard or two that can sometimes end up being the one. However, you have to have the open mindedness that you might leave with the complete opposite of what you came out looking for.
When it comes to your actual appointment, now bear in mind we might do it differently to other shops, we get you in and sat on our lovely sofa. Then, it’s time to talk about you and your wedding. Really get you thinking about it and picturing the whole day. Let’s talk themes, colour schemes and ideas together!
We then go through and show you how our dresses are laid out. Fitted, fishtail and floaty, to A-Line and Ballgown. Even our ‘take me home today’ dresses where you can find some real hidden gems. It’s good to try on a bit of everything if you haven’t tried anything on yet. Or even if you have, sometimes it’s good to just try a wildcard. You never know, you may be pleasantly surprised.
It can look overwhelming when you see all of the dresses on the rails, but just going through them one by one and seeing if you get a vibe from them then trying them on. We’re happy to stay and help you in the changing room, or if you want more privacy we can pop in and out when you need us. There is never any harm just trying a dress on, even if it’s just for a moment and if you don’t like it, then just take it off.
Eventually you’ll whittle it down to a top 2 or 3 and then the real fun begins. We can try different accessories or veils to really nail that bridal look. It’s easy to say ‘YES to the dress’ because you will know as soon as you put it on.
The most important thing to remember is, don’t panic! We are there to answer any questions you might have and really help guide you through the process of finding that perfect dress for your big day.
